Wedding toast. I was going to give a wedding toast. I didn't even know the guy (or the girl) I was toasting. My best friend was a best man, and he needed someone to give a toast. And I agreed. Here's the thing, I didn't even know his friend -- the guy who's getting married -- all that well. We'd met like twice. I wasn't even planning on going to the wedding. But here I was giving a toast. So, what could I do? First of all, I'm not good at public speaking. Second, I didn't know this guy. So, I went online and looked at all the books that teach you how to do wedding toasts. I had time. I could take a chance and buy one, and if it didn't work out, I could buy another. I could repeat this until I found a toast book that helped. Sure, it might get expensive, but I was desperate. Well, I tried an online book. And it was really good. I don't know if I need the book in hindsight. It seems like I could have done it myself. But I don't think it would have come as easily without the specific tips for giving wedding toasts. Since I attended that wedding, I've been getting into weddings a bit. Not enough to get married, mind you, but I've been writing articles and some of them will appear at a popular wedding website. Check it out. I even mention the book that saved my skin in one of the articles. It's not high literature, but there are many helpful tips.
